How to Score Free Vegas Perks with Host Hacks (Even as Concierges Disappear)

The Strip wants you to think comps are for whales dropping thousands, but I turned a $100 slot session into a $150 dining credit for nada.

With concierges vanishing, hosts are your ticket to free Vegas perks.

Here’s how to play them.

Picture this: I’m at Circa Resort & Casino last month, the neon lights buzzing like a bad hangover, slot machines chiming in the background. I wasn’t planning a big night, just $100 (okay, maybe $200) on slots over a couple of hours.

But a quick email to a Circa host, a snarky X post about downtown’s vibe, and a bit of charm (maybe a bit of snark also) landed me a $150 dining credit for free at Project BBQ. We’re talking smoked brisket, pulled pork sliders, and craft beer that tasted like victory, all without an extra dime out of pocket.

I’m Jason, your ex-Apple strategist turned Vegas truth-teller, and that moment proved hosts are the new kings of comps in a city where traditional concierges are fading fast.

With MGM slashing Concierge staffed desks at six properties in 2025 (leaving only Bellagio and Aria with in-person service), knowing how to work hosts is essential. The Strip’s $200 “VIP” packages are a scam for low-rollers, but these hacks will get you rooms, meals, and tickets with $100–$200 play or less. Let’s dive into the real, tested ways to work the system.

The Strip’s $200+ Perk Ripoff for Everyday Players

Vegas is a master at making you feel small if you’re not betting big. In 2024, casinos hauled in $3.2 billion from shows and dining, per the Nevada Tourism Board, but low-rollers get stuck with $50+ “resort fees” or $35 ticket surcharges for a view of someone’s head.

A Wolfpack member, Mike from Atlanta, shared his horror story: he spent $220 on a “premium” steakhouse comp at Caesars, only to get a table by the clanging kitchen and a lukewarm filet with a $50 minimum spend tacked on. “It was like paying for a mob shakedown, minus the charm,” he DM’d me.

In the Rat Pack era, a $25 bet got you a free steak and a Sinatra wink. Now, with MGM closing concierge desks at Mandalay Bay, New York-New York, Park MGM, Excalibur, Luxor, and MGM Grand, you’re left with apps and kiosks that can’t comp a coffee. Hosts, though, are still flesh-and-blood insiders, tracking your play, dining, and hotel spend to calculate “theoretical loss” (your expected loss, like $10–$20/hour on $1 slots). For low-rollers, that means comps worth 20–40% of your loss, if you know how to work them.
