Another late-night dining option just bit the dust.
I could swear Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill at MGM Grand was still seating until 2 a.m. on weekends back in January when I last stayed at MGM and ate there. I was not imagining it. Wifey confirmed my drunk ass sat down around 1:15am. Listings still had Friday and Saturday open until 2 a.m. as recently as August. The official page now says midnight. Every night. No announcement. Just another quietly closed option of what Vegas used to be.
Midnight is still later than most of the Strip. That is not the point.
This was one of the last places in the building, or one the strip for that matter, where you could get back from a game or a show, skip room service, and sit down for an actual meal. Not a reheated slice. Not a drive-through. Not Fast Food. A table.
I am not even sure how popular Wolfgang Puck is these days. I don’t really care. I know I still also really enjoy Spago…
What I care about is late-night dining, because it is rare, and it keeps getting rarer.

One of the things I actually like about the MGM renovation is the rooms. Nicer. A reason to take the lower price and stay somewhere you might have skipped. I showed the suite they hooked me up with back in January. I stayed there a whole week for like $25 bucks… I had a blast and hadn’t stayed at MGM for years, frankly you don’t hear about many who do…. It’s a missed opportunity by so many now that the place has been refreshed. One of the reasons that stay worked was having somewhere to eat after the night was already going. Wolfgang’s filled that void.
Did. Past tense.

I always thought of it as The Henry, just further south. An upscale diner that could do breakfast, lunch, and a real dinner, and still be there when you stumbled in. Drinks are fine. The menu has range. I am rarely up for breakfast, so I cannot personally vouch for that, though I have heard it is good. What I can vouch for is the wood-fired pizza, the pasta, it should be good, the guy also runs Spago, the steak frites, and the Viennese chicken schnitzel. The wagyu beef-tallow fries are legit. It is not cheap. There is a Denny’s right outside for that. This was the nicer version of a late night, when you wanted to show her a little late night class while trying to seal the deal.. 😆
Lunch has decent wings and a $29 French dip, which is a little crazy. I never really saw it as a lunch place. Breakfast and a late dinner fit it pretty nicely,
The crazy thing is, MGM is still full of people late. Conventions, shows, the casino, guests who are not in bed at 10. They got this one wrong. MGM isn’t full of scooter parking these days, and even if people late night somewhere else, we did, when you return and want something to eat before late gambling or going back to the room, this was perfect.
It has been in the building since December 1992, the casual follow-up to Spago. It survived the chef churn. It even survived a health-department shutdown in January 2025 — 42 demerits, closed over a weekend, reopened with an A. Things happen, I’ve never had a cleanliness issue.
And then for some reason they cut the hours?
This is the same problem I just wrote about. Vegas is getting worse at making the customer who stays out. The 20s are not showing up the way they used to. The night keeps getting shorter. I don’t get it. I’ve gone back after a game for more than a few drinks at Losers and then dinner here. Thats a solid evening.. Why would a resort that is still busy after midnight decide the late night kitchen should go anyway?
What the fuck, Vegas.
I wanted this to be the positive one. The useful restaurant. The reason the MGM room is a better booking than people think.
It was. Then they quietly moved the close to midnight and dared me to notice.
Return test?
I really don’t know, I was prepared to say that it’s a great late night option and decent dining, especially if you are at MGM.. They took that away.
With the A’s stadium opening next door in the future, MGM should get an increase in traffic and those people are going to want to drink, eat and gamble into the night, so why is Vegas dining moving away from that?
If you are staying at MGM and you still want a table after a game, or an even, you just lost two hours.
