There’s a moment that keeps happening to me lately.

I’ll be online, or standing somewhere in Vegas, on a casino floor, a bar, Fremont, or the Strip, and I’ll overhear the same argument playing out for the thousandth time.

“Vegas used to be better.”

“No it didn’t, it’s packed.”

“Vegas is dying.”

“Vegas is crushing it.”

Everyone’s loud.

Everyone’s right.

And somehow… everyone’s wrong.

Because the truth sits in the middle, where nobody wants to stand, and exactly where I like to live.

Old Vegas isn’t coming back.

And New Vegas still hasn’t figured out what it’s supposed to be.

The Problem With Romanticizing Old Vegas

I love old Vegas. The real old Vegas, not the Instagram version with fedoras and fake mob quotes.

There are still places in this city where you can feel it. Walk through certain downtown casinos like El Cortez, Golden Gate, Binions, and it honestly feels like someone important once stood exactly where you’re standing. Some properties wear their age proudly. Others just… wear it.
