The Las Vegas Strip Isn’t Unsafe. The Story About It Is.
What the flashing lights don’t tell you, and why that matters.
So this weekend, there was another “social disruption” on the Las Vegas Strip.
Or was it an absolute riot?
Honestly, we’ll probably never know.
Reports were all over the place. Videos flooded social feeds. And once again, the media response was what I’ve come to call questionably silent. No clear explanation. No timeline. No real follow-up. Just enough information to acknowledge something happened, and not nearly enough to explain what or why.
Which means Vegas visitors did what they always end up doing.
They filled in the gaps themselves.
Police say a large group gathered during a street performance (which was said to be a band) and began disrupting traffic near the 3600 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard. My first thought was, “Why the hell do we still allow these on the strip?” This is a topic the county swears they are working on. At one point, something was thrown and hit an officer. 11 arrests were made. Videos have surfaced showing a wall of police officers outside Beer Park at Paris, shoulder to shoulder, yelling at people to move north or be subject to arrest. Not a suggestion. Not a redirect. A command.
Now, if your hotel was south of that line… or across the street… that could turn into a long, confusing night real fast.
