It’s fall in Vegas, which means the weather is finally tolerable and you can walk the Strip without wanting to crawl into an air-conditioned elevator and stay there. I covered the F1 week stuff in the paid edition earlier this week, so this one is about the other newness around town. A few of these feel like the same old story, a couple are interesting, and one I’m actually excited about.
I love to see new things in Las Vegas though and I guess you can be the judge on how many of these are simply on “rinse and repeat”…
Quick scoring guideline:
Worth the trip: Would I leave the hotel on purpose?
Worth the money: Will the experience match the bill?
Vegas enough: It adds something to this city instead of just existing here.
Wait and see: Is it Interesting on paper, or not buying the hype yet?
The Corner Store at The Cosmopolitan
Opens November 9 in the old Blue Ribbon space. Tilman Fertitta, Eugene Remm, and Catch Hospitality bringing the SoHo original west. Lobster & Caviar Rolls, Five Cheese Pizza Rolls, a Wagyu French Dip, butcher’s counter, martini program. Rockwell Group design. Smart Elegant. Reservations live.
Cosmo has always been weird about having some staples that never change and others that can’t seem to make it. I wasn’t shocked to see Blue Ribbon get cut, but I’m not sure this is that big of a difference. A $40 Wagyu French Dip isn’t something I’m jumping up to make a reservation for. I’m sure it’s fine. It just feels like more of the same expensive food, think less fancy steakhouse with all the fancy prices. Nothing that jumps out as different the way Zuma next door does. They do, however, have a Cap’n Crunch Milk Punch (Reserva de la Familia Platino Tequila, Sherry Amontillado, Maple Verjus, Cap’n Crunch). I might do a dessert-drink run for that.
Worth the trip: IDK, first glance…..Not really.
Worth the money: Unlikely for me.
Vegas enough: Borderline, but nothing you don’t see everywhere else.
Wait and see: Mildly, for the Cap’n Crunch drink.
TENSHOU Collection at BLVD
Grand opening November 20. Multi-counter Japanese omakase destination under one roof (Jotaki fine Chinese, Sushi Koma, Teruzushi, Suzutashiki wood-fired kaiseki, Torien yakitori, Numata tempura). Dining is reservation-only on Tock, counter seating, two seatings most nights. Several of the counters are currently listed at $550 per person (excluding tax and beverage). Suzutashiki still has reservations opening soon and hasn’t released pricing yet. These are intimate, traditional Japanese counter experiences—the kind where the price is meant to cover the service and tipping isn’t the expectation the way it is at most Strip restaurants.
That’s the dining side. The part I’m actually excited about is…
BAR CENTIFOLIA, the walk-in-only cocktail bar (5 p.m.–midnight). Outpost of the Tokyo original led by Master Yuzo Komai (and Hijiri Sakai). This is the guy who puts on a show, theatrical ice carving with a custom knife/sword, fire work, liquid nitrogen, the whole performance. If you haven’t heard of him…Look him up. Japanese whisky is involved. I’m fairly confident a few rounds is going to equal most of a car payment, but the fire and the whisky had me at the announcement. I’m in town opening night and thinking I’ll wait a few days so it settles. The location at BLVD still feels a little odd to me, I hope it drives traffic, but I’ll get in sooner or later and do a full report. First come, first served. I will sit at that bar eventually. Sounds like a lot of fun.
This is the one that feels different from the usual imported-name play.
Worth the trip: I’m thinking YES, especially for the bar.
Worth the money: We’ll see after a few rounds if it’s a one and done.
Vegas enough: Higher than most. It’s different and we need that.
Wait and see: Only on the dining counters. I’m struggling with that $550pp price.
Category 10 at Flamingo
Opened October 15. Luke Combs’ concept with Opry Entertainment Group. Three stories, seven bars, two stages, rooftop, hat wall. Replaces the old Margaritaville space. Appalachian-leaning food, live music daily, free line-dancing lessons. No traditional cover, they just add a 3.5% entertainment fee to food and beverage.
Think $25–$35 cocktails and a bit more neon Nashville than Ole Red. There’s a bar called The Still that will charge you too much for drinks and bourbon. I looked at it, then saw the 3.5% Entertainment Fee and checked out. With bar food and drinks already at double what they should cost, the “entertainment” should be included. This is another gotcha fee I’m getting tired of. I might still check the view, but after looking at the prices I’m not that excited. Pretty sure Losers is in NO jeopardy to lose its spot as my favorite country bar on the strip.
Worth the trip: Only if you’re already at Flamingo and want the rooftop.
Worth the money: No.
Vegas enough: Mildly, for the country footprint. Will be popular during NFR.
Wait and see: On whether the fee and pricing kill the vibe.
Skyfall Rooftop + Living Room at W Las Vegas
Reopened late October on the 64th floor of the former Delano, now W Las Vegas. Rockwell Group redesign, new cocktail program, weekend DJs. Living Room (lobby lounge) also debuted. Hours roughly 5 p.m. until midnight or later on weekends.
It’s looking sexy. If you’re at Mandalay, do yourself a favor and go see Vegas up high and at night. Always good for a cocktail. I’ve never been disappointed here. The new cocktails are kinda different, they have one called “You say Tomato” which is a tomato water, tequila, and mezcal type marg.. IDK why, but it sounds good. Will be at Mandalay for an event early 2027 and will be stopping by.
Worth the trip: If you’re already on the south end.
Worth the money: Standard rooftop.
Vegas enough: The view is.
Wait and see: Not really, this one’s a proven staple that’s been refreshed.
Alex Prime at El Cortez
Now open (mid-October). Upscale New York- 1940’s style steakhouse sharing the space with Siegel’s 1941. Named after owner Kenny Epstein’s daughter. USDA Prime steaks, raw bar, cocktails named for El Cortez history figures. Dinner from 5 p.m. El Cortez turns 85 this month.
If you’re looking for a $22 salad and another expensive steakhouse but downtown, I guess this is a place to go. They do have a decent-looking Thanksgiving menu for $89 per person if you don’t feel like burning down the house trying to fry that turkey this year. You know my view on expensive steakhouses, so this is for information purposes only. Place looks nice, though.
Worth the trip: For downtown people who want a steak.
Worth the money: Your call.
Vegas enough: Highest of the group.
Wait and see: Mildly.
Iron Mike Legacy at Flamingo
Announced for fall 2026. Official materials still list “Fall 2026” with no hard public opening date locked. Ticketed, timed-entry multi-sensory self-guided walkthrough using VR, AR, holograms, and projection mapping. Tickets have been on sale starting in the $59 range but for February so I’m not sure this will make a fall appearance.
I really don’t know what to think of this one. Sounds like the Netflix special that just came out. I predict they’ll be offering half-price tickets soon after opening because $59 during the day isn’t going to work. And if you don’t get to fight Mike as a hologram or in virtual reality at the end of this thing, someone fucked up and should be fired.
Worth the trip: Not yet.
Worth the money: Unknown.
Vegas enough: Low so far.
Wait and see: Strongly.
A few others that don’t move the needle as much: Alibi Cocktail Social at ARIA reopening/transformed November 13 (fine if you’re already there). Cliff House Grill at Wynn Golf Club opened October 2 (more resort amenity than destination). Significant Other Kitchen & Cocktails near the airport opened late October (solid neighborhood spot with plane views). Rumi Room at The Bend in the southwest has a grand opening event November 7.
Most of these still land as wait-and-see or “worth the money if you’re already nearby.” The Corner Store and Iron Mike feel like the usual shiny-new-thing play. Category 10 and Alex Prime are more practical depending on what you’re already into. Skyfall is the reliable high-view option. The one I’m actually interested in leaving the hotel for is BAR CENTIFOLIA. Everything else can wait until the lights dim and the real reviews land. I’m not so sure I’ll be the first to visit and do them though.
Will you?
